Tarting Up the High Street!
Is the current recession driving us to become ladies of the night? The high street is certainly lending itself to this impression. There is way too much dreadful faux fur, cheap sequins and horrible leather jackets for my liking. What were the fashion houses thinking when they thought that this fashion trend would work?!
'No Knickers' rightly describes fake fur as tragic in her latest blog. It is. How anyone in their right mind would be engage any of this trash is beyond FCaNK.
Sequins do not fair any better. Don't get us wrong, sequins when done right are simply stunning. The key word in the last sentence and the secret to sequins is 'simple'. Keep it simple and elegant and you have yourself a winner gown or piece of clothing. You head of disaster when you pile the sequins on top of one another and completely overwhelm an item. Do check out Matthew Williamson's Butterfly collection at Debenhams. He does do justice to a wonderful material with some fantastic pieces this season.
No need to discuss the leather jackets too much as we cover them in our October Style Newsletter. Suffice to say, follow FCaNK's rules when buying leather and you won't go wrong.
Look, I am not saying don't buy any of these items, just be VERY careful as to where you buy and what you buy. Frankly, I can't help you on the faux fur. My only pitiful suggestion is to take yourself and your credit card to Prada or Mui Mui. Be prepared to max out your credit card though! Be mindful of how long the trend will last compared with how much you will spend on your precious faux fur. For those of us who like a touch of animal print, Boden have come up with some good value ballet flats that are great for the season. Not too sure about giraffe print... it just presses the wrong safari button in me! Zebra might be more your thing!
Signing off,
