Size 12 Or 14? Who Cares, She Looks Beautiful!
The frustration of dishonest shop assistants and why we should salute Mark Fast! Who is he, some of you may ask? Well you are about to find out!
Beginning with Mark Fast's (www.markfast.net) fabulous London Fashion Week Show on Saturday at the University of Westminster. Mr. Fast is a knitwear designer. Is this sounding a bit Pringle? Well think again, he is anything but conservative. His clothes are daring and dashing. As those gorgeous models sashayed down the catwalk, I was sure that the dresses were willing me to put them on my body.
His show was even more inviting as Mr. Fast had the guts, style and determination to parade size 12 and 14 models on his catwalk. I swear that I could hear the gasps of horror from Hanover Square!
As you can see from these photographs, the women modeled the clothes beautifully. In fact, as they are around my size, I could really visualize myself in them (I think that I would need to drop 20 or so years, but still!!). Anyway, it created a stir as the story has made news for the past day or so. Google it and see for yourself!
FCaNK salutes Mr. Fast and his life-sized models! Long live this logic and reason.

Shop Assistants Or Shop Saboteurs?
Onto a more unsavoury matter and one of my pet hates. Dishonest and rude shop assistants. My friend took me to look at a dress for a christening she is attending in Italy. We went to a very chi chi shop just down the road from us where she had the dress on hold. Historically I do not like the shop. This is primarily because the shop assistants are so rude. As they do have some beautiful pieces, I grudgingly go there occasionally for a look-see. Indeed I managed to drop a few hundred quid there in July on non-sale and sale items. Anyway, back to the story.
My friend had chosen a stunning dress from Sport Max Mara. It is an Audrey Hepburn style dress in a soft gray wool gabardine. My friend had held a size 10.
When she put it on again, it was clearly too small for her. I mean she has an amazing figure but motherhood has left her with a wider rib cage meaning that the dress was very snug and tight across the back. So tight in fact that the invisible zip was very much visible. That didn't stop the silly shop assistant from cooing over the dress and how it looked on my friend.
When I commented on the zip problem, she conceded that it was a little snug but that my friend could probably get away with it. My friend soon worked out that it was too tight and requested the size up. The silly woman bought her the size 14! It was huge. Again, I said as much. Again the silly woman proceeded to preach to me and put me in my place by telling us this is the look!
Unfortunately, my friend decided to buy it in the size. Thankfully she discovered that it was a size 14 as she was taking it to the till. The shop assistant then finally brought her the size 12. It fitted her like a glove. Funny, I thought, this woman has just told my friend that the size 10, 12 and 14 dresses ALL fit her like a glove! The dishonesty and rudeness of this woman was breathtaking!
How ridiculous! The moral of the story is never purchase something unless you love it and it is a proper fit. Know your own mind. No names of course, but Fur Coat won't be shopping there in the future!
Before I go, a picture of the amazing clothes by Greek born designer Anna Katrantzou (www.marykatrantzou.com). Again, taken at the London Fashion Show.
Signing off,
