We are loving New Look. Don't be deceived by thinking this is a store for teenagers. They produce fabulous designs at great prices. This season and next seem to be heading towards cheap chic designs whilst also supplying the obligatory 80's trash. New Look seems to have around a 45% mark up on Primark, and even though the quality deferential is not that great, the designs and tailoring are preferable. We are loving New Look for shoes and boots and the good news is, according to 'The Good Shopping Guide', their ethical history is better than some other high street stores.
The Shopping List
- Shoes – leather flats for £15! They cater for wide sizes as well and can go up to a size 9.
- Also check out the retro ruffle court shoes £20.
- Boots – their leather range is fantastic quality and is reasonably priced.
- Black jeans (no bling) – excellent fit £20+
- Cute print dresses £22+ ...on the short side so watch out if your knees are on the chubby side!
- Cotton shirts (In our opinion make a good value Gap substitute) £14+
- Knitwear classic chic designs with muted colour choices £16+
- Mac great details and colour ways £35+
- Leggings - high percentage of cotton mix £8
- Pussy cat black cocktail dress amazing at £32+
Purchase With Care
Bling alert!
We suggest that you buy black jeans. Often the blue jeans have an excess of bleaching and bling. To be avoided at all cost!
Don't get too excited about the accessories
The accessories are worth looking at in case you spot a gem, but we think accessories are not their strongest selling point and can look very tacky.
Ignore the cheap shop fit out
Don't be put off by the trashy neon surroundings and look past that to the classic chic styling.
Avoid man made work wear
Don't buy the 100% polyester work suit. Apart from the negative effect on the environment, it looks trashy!
Avoid cheap looking colour ways
Unless you are going for the 80's trashy look, on the whole the muted tones are a bit more classy when shopping at New Look.
