"… the fabric molds the body making you feel sexy. It's like a good friend. You wake up feeling bad, open the closet and there she is, like a good friend. She has a way of making you feel better." Diane Von Furstenburg

Dresses

Ms. Furstenburg's words encompass why her dresses are so hot!  Find a fabulous dress that suits you and you will have a friend for life.

Dresses make a statement without a great deal of work. In the winter months your snug woolen (or cashmere if you are in a Fur Coat mood!) dress can be worn with boots and a simple piece of statement jewellery.  This look  will take you to work and the theatre afterwards.   Other great fabrics for winter are jersey and silk.  Man made fabrics are fine as long as they don't bubble.

We adore the  shift dress look especially for work.  We think its clean lines and dramatic silhouette communicate a clear headed intelligence.  A perfect look for the office, to keep you calm and collected.  Take a peek at our Work Wear  suggestions as we give an honorary  nod of respect to the shift phenomenon!

In the Summer months you can afford to have a number of floaty summer dresses to wear with flip flops or heels as the mood takes you.  The fabric won't matter so much as dresses tend to be less structured.  Watch out for some of the hems and seams in the cheaper end shops.  Zara and Mango designs are often extravagant and flamboyant in the summer so well worth looking at first. Whistles  designer Michael Stars produces some fabulous jersey dresses that will take you anywhere in the summer. You will pay £80 and upwards, so choose a colour you adore and make it last!

Marmalade Made is a ladies boutique at market prices.  They have a fantastic array of dresses  (and tops!) for every occasion.  Marmalade Made trades at the Dulwich  (Saturdays) and Northcote Road  (Friday to Sunday) markets.   FCaNK likes MM as they mainly stock clothes from small independent designers, plucked straight from fashion colleges.  All their clothes are priced at a fabulous No Knickers prices of  between £25-£65.
They carry the following labels:

We know we have already mentioned the iconic DVF  wrap dress.  Just to say that you don't have to own a DVF dress in order to enter the wrap dress club!  There are plenty of other great designers that do the wrap dress well.  Great Plains  and Ghost  bought out some fabulous designs for Autumn/Winter 08/09.
