....Lots of choc'late for me to eat, lots of coal makin' lots of 'eat..warm face ...warm 'ands warm feet...

Oh my fair ladies,
We may be turning our attention to our bank balances in order to budget for pressies for our loved ones at Christmas but hands, necks and heads need to be warm and cosy. Every year, I pull out my well worn acrylic gloves that have never been updated because there is always something or someone more important to spend on.

Remember that FCaNK is living stylishly and happily for less, and this is hard if, over time, your hands become chapped and raw in the icy winds of the November chill. I would never advocate purchasing gloves that are the price of a small car... this seems ridiculous but it is worth ensuring that they are sufficiently cosy. For some of us, having warm hands are not difficult to attain because we have the circulation of a commercial boiler in an old people's home but for others of us who really feel the chill it is certainly worth investing in a decent pair of gloves that are hardy enough to do the job but also add a touch of style! FCaNK think that you can get away with a cheaper coat if you spend more on accessories rather than the other way around!

A couple of No Knickers tips for purchasing your hand cosys:
  • Check the area between your thumb and forefinger. If the gloves are cheap, the seam will be flimsy and you will be replacing the gloves within a few months and that's just a waste of time and money.
  • Consider whether you need gloves for snowball fights, driving to the pub or running for a bus to Sloane Square. Obviously, snow will be a deciding factor for a trip to Millets to buy some hideous ski gloves...otherwise of course, you could go all out for the leather option. More about that in our newsletter this month.
  • If you do choose cheap gloves, try and avoid sparkles...they are always 100% naff!
  • Unless they are occasional gloves, it's best to buy in dark but interesting colours. We love midnight colours, grey, garnet, chocolate and plum.
  • If you have three quarter length jackets then buy long sleeved gloves or small gloves and some retro arm warmers for a bit more interest.
Brora are a faithful knitwear brand and have thrown some nicely priced items into their cable knit santa sleigh this year! To be honest, you might be deceived into paying these prices in high brand shops for a blended cashmere mix which is less than 10%. Watch out for the cashmere deception; for more info have a look at our 'Know Your Fabrics' page.
