FCaNK Wedding Tips
- Get the full scoop on wedding details. Invitations sometimes don't give a lot away. No Knickers has been known to offer to help with the flowers just to get the inside story on wedding plans! How sad! A typical wedding soiree is a church ceremony followed by a night time disco. A tricky combination outfit wise, but we are here to help!
- A
Summer wedding requires a subtle fake tan or a sun kissed holiday the
week before. Be under no illusion, everyone does it and you don't have
to look a ridiculous shade of orange. Unless you have a gorgeous Lilly
Cole type complexion, a professional tan is for everyone! It will give
you more body confidence and a smooth golden outer glow rather than
smearing! We always say...get the canvas right and the rest will
follow. Always moisturise your skin and your feet in the days up to the
wedding because it will make such a difference to the overall look.
Another tip...please remember tan lines are terrible...get rid of them
any way any how!! A beautician will know what to do...so don't lose
sleep over them!
- We all have our own personal style that we
are comfortable with. Some of us prefer classic, natural or dramatic
looks. If you have a tendency to dress down, you will need to force
yourself to try on ludicrously flamboyant clothes just to see how they
look. This should steer you in the right direction and enhance your
mood to dress up for the occasion. Take a friend, have a glass of
champagne, have your nails done and have some Fur Coat fun...or if you
are on a No Knickers budget treat yourselves to some Sushi and Green
Tea at Pret! Likewise, if you are a dramatic dresser, remember to NOT
outdo the Bride on her day! Dress down - for you anyway!
Well heeled ladies!

FCaNK lives and dies by one highly controversial rule. Start from the shoes and move up! If you focus on your feet first, you will avoid that hideous moment when you have splashed out on your Miss Average but pricey Monsoon dress and realise that your chosen shoes make you look like your Brown Owl Brownie leader! Or worse, you wear a pair of glittery flip flops with a matching glittery necklace...yikes! Before you know it, you look like a mismatch in a flip book and you've wasted time and money. So ladies..start with the shoes!
No Knickers is a wedding professional. Married to a vicar, she is blighted by them! She will blow her budget on the shoes because these are her statement piece that will see her through a number of seasons. She will then update her look with a cheap and cheerful cutsey dress from H&M. These Carvela beauties (above right) are £69 in the Debenhams sale. Click on the pics and we will take you there!!
Comfort
is really important, especially the tightness of the shoe! You will be
standing a lot over the course of the event. There is nothing worse
than seeing swollen feet that look like plump purple aubergines in your
tight shoes. If you feel the pinch when your feet are cool...don't buy
them. Come back when they are hot and sweaty and the blood is pooling
at your toes..if they still look and feel great..they are worth having!
No Knickers likes to buy shoes with frills and a lot going on so that she can cut costs on the dress. Fur Coat goes for a more classic court so that she can go to town on her outfit. Make your budget work for you! These shoes on the left are from Boden, that are tasteful whilst making a statement. Dune is wedding guest heaven. We think they are excelling themselves since their style upgrade! The British high street answer for all Sex and the City Fans!!
Fur Coat loves these glitzy sandals. Dune also has some fabulous statement courts. We love a court shoe with a peep toe! Have a bit of fun. Slingbacks are fab, wedges can be the go if the wedding is more of a casual affair. Lastly, don't go overboard. Just aim to complement your dress and buy some party feet shoes inserts just in case!!
Be dressy!
Once you have your shoes that you adore, this will help you target shop for the perfect dress. No Knickers is a big fan of girl meets dress, which is an elegant way to look the part for a day without bleeding dry your bank account. Check out her blog and advice.
As
you know, FCaNK love the stylish simplicity of a dress and we think
they are brilliant value for money. A dress made from beautiful fabric
that catches your eye is the key to a great wedding outfit. No Knickers
loves this Emily and Finn Boho dress whereas Fur Coat prefers something
a bit more tailored from Coast.
These two dresses are so easy to accessorise. We suggest breaking up
the bold stroke of colour with patterned accessories rather than any
temptation to go matchy matchy.
We
think this ring is a fab and fun addition to the Emily and Finn Boho
dress. At £11 it is a fantastic bargain! Avoid adding big blocks of
colour as accessories to these dresses because this could easily kill
the dress. Both these dresses are deserving of great shoe statements...
so you can really go to town!Patterned fabrics are great at weddings and ask to be worn with statements of bold
colour
accessories. However, be careful with patterned dresses in case the
other guests will be wearing it too. Avoid high street pattern dresses
for this reason, unless they are limited edition. We also advise that
you steer clear of "surfy" style pattern dresses because they look out
of place with a pair of stillettos instead of the usual flip flops or
Birkenstocks! We love this one from See by Chloe at Liberty, worn with
wooden bangles or fantastic beads and natural shoe accessories, it's a
drama all by itself and needs very little to show it off!!Other dress tips...
- Never seek to out dress the bride!
- Avoid a disco diva figure hugging number that skims your bottom! Great for a nightclub..but very tacky for a wedding!
- Historically,
we are meant to avoid wearing black and white separately. Although No
Knickers breaks this rule because she has a fantastic LBD for a winter
wedding. It is best to wear something a little more cheery, so
accessorise flamboyantly!
- All white is a definite NO NO, very much the prerogative of the bride!!
- Be careful before deciding on a floor length gown or worst of all wearing a recycled bridesmaid dress...people still do it, you'd be surprised! You don't want to look like a prom chick!
- A long floaty dress will do for a Greek style wedding. Just team it with some flats and a great piece of jewellery and you will wow the crowds!
- If you
aren't an accessories girl or cannot afford to pay out more for
statement jewellery, FCaNK's advice is to buy a dress with a high
neckline.
If not a dress..then what?!
FCaNK thinks trouser suits, though fantastic for workwear aren't great for a wedding celebration. Even Miranda wouldn't wear a business suit to a wedding...would she?! FCaNK think that the only acceptable suit to wear at a wedding this season is a Jump Suit and before you think we are mad...hear what we have to say!
The Jump Suit is a fabulous outfit for a relaxed wedding. Dress up for the evening and give it a daytime look for the church service. Really flexible and very flattering for long legs. A bit original too, which we like! This one from Jaeger...we love from My-Wardrobe but it will need some fabulous styling to liven it up!
And for the Mother of the Bride.....
FCaNK love the mother of the bride or groom in a matching coat to their dress! Fabulous and quite regal! We absolutely love dress coats like this one on the right from Windsmoor. No Knickers' mother was very clever and wore a fabulous black pencil shift with a patterned short bolero that she had tailored for her. With a stunning hat..she looked utterly fabulous and not at all "mother of the bride"!
Next
month, we are going to take you to task on the pashmina cover up and
give you other options for covering up. We will shift our focus to the
hat, other accessories and makeup. How fun! We also review a divine new
skin care label called Bare Skin Beauty! If you make it to our
breakfast shopping morning on Wednesday, you will get a sneak preview
of this divine skin care! Don't forget to keep in touch with your
comments on the site... or on Facebook. We love to hear from you!
Until then..happy days glamorous ladies...go fourth and live a little!
Emma (Fur Coat) and Suzie (No Knickers)
