Glads and Rags SS10 - April '10 Newsletter

How lovely that we are beyond the March days when it is Summer in the light and Winter in the shade making it impossible to dress  for the weather. April has brought us beautiful sunshine days in Europe and we are enjoying the long awaited injection of vitamin D to our pallid complexions.
Anyway down to the business of fashion and how to wear it stylishly without wearing your wallet out! Our boutique of the month is the lovely Leona Edmiston! We also bring you statement Spring jackets, duffle bags, Charlie Smith's new "Peace" collection and the gladiator sandals. Read on!...

Leona Edmiston Alex DressBoutique of the Month...Leona Edmiston

Our boutique of this month is the sublime Leona Edmiston. Perfect timing, we hear you cry, because Leona has a fabulous mid season sale on right now! Yes, girls a trip to Westfield is calling or you can shop online!
Fur Coat recently sported her LE dresses on her grand tour of Australia and garnered compliments where ever she went.
We love Leona as her materials are so easy to wear and care for. The jersey dresses are perfect for a fast paced Fur Coat lifestyle; no need for ironing and no fuss washing instructions. We Love them! Of course, always check the label because each garment is different. No Knickers loves the simple style of this diamond dress ...eloquently cool. Take a peek in the Boutique by clicking here ...happy shopping!

Whiite cream statement jacket SS10 collectionStatement Jackets

Cute stripy vintage, military or a Cambridge blazer.....jackets are big this season. Here are a few FCaNK tips:
  • Cheap military jackets are hard to disguise. The buttons, the fabric and the absence of a decent lining all make for an obviously low budget look! FCaNK thinks that the budget shops are all doing the military jacket badly this season.
  • Don't be afraid of interesting styling on the shoulders, these can be very flattering for those of us with rounded or sloping shoulders and give us a bit of structure. A style point like this can also raise the overall impression of the garment and make it look a bit more expensive.
  • FCaNK are very sceptical about pleated, wrinkled sleeves. We think these look terrible on cheap items...if you want the messed up sleeve look...you need to spend large amounts of cash!
  • Don't be afraid to pull out an old navy jacket and update with accessories. If you don't own one there are loads of basics navy jackets in charity shops that can be revamped.
  • We would choose simple lines over too many decorative additions; especially if you have  a No Knickers Budget
FCaNK give H&M their seal of approval for their statement jacket collection. If you are going for broke, then H&M seem to be providing the best value FCaNK statement jackets on the high street. You will need to roll down sleeves and regularly press the jacket but we think these are most suitable for a one season wonder.  FCaNK loves the double collar jacket at Warehouse and the Vero Moda interpretation of the Navy Blazer at Asos; gorgeous in their simplicity. We also love the Danish Whiite collection. They are always so stylish and their pricing is not over the top. You can pick up a great quality jacket from them (like the one shown above) for around £120.

Studio TMLS Saint Tropez II Harbor Blue £185Glads and Rags!

If you are flummoxed by the Roman sandal anarchy on the high street...we are here to help. No Knickers has provided us with some helpful tips and a couple of fab budget buys in her recent blog.  Fur Coat thinks these gladiators are fabulous and will be wearing them with pride this season. She particularly loves Jimmy Choo's naked patents...adorable for stepping off your first class flight to Tuscany...live the Fur Coat dream! Our posh Fur Coat friend did come across some AMAZING gladiator inspired sandals for SS10 at a Press Day at Dee Vesali PR Agency. Check out Studio TLMS for some fab designs. They are at FC prices...but look at it as an investment. The quality is second to none so you can sleep easier knowing that! This fab  Studio TLMS sandal retails for around £185.
Charlie Smith Peace Collection

Charlie Smith's new "Peace" collection is out now!

Charlie has been hard at work on a beautiful new "Peace" collection.  You can check out more of what Charlie has been up to on our updated Charlie Smith page in our Boutique. We think that she has reached new levels of creativity and these are quite exquisite. They will be available to view on her website soon or you can call her.  Click here to go to her website. She has used Buffalo Horn, bone, wood and her usual mix of vintage finds to create some wonderful pieces. You can choose from one of these that are pre-made or order your own bespoke jewellery piece from Charlie - order one of the angel wings or peace icons from Charlie. We can't wait to drape a few of these beauties on our bodies!

ASOS Grey Suede Duffle Studded Across Body Bag £35Duffle Bags

No Knickers is not moved by the duffle bag syndrome. She remembers only too clearly as a style deprived teenager, buying a duffle bag and regretting it even then. We personally think that if you are going to go for the duffle it should be worn with top to toe casual style - Get the loafers, the heavy fringe, the hair extensions and the ankle bracelets too! Does this sound a tad prescriptive ?! ASOS have a good take on the duffle bag, even if it is a grey colourway with studs!! We like the Urban Outfitters Bauble Bag, not bad for £38!  FCaNK think that slouch Hobo bags are a perfect compromise and there are plenty to be found at Topshop.  As an end note, Fur Coat thinks that duffle bags should stay either in the gym or at university!

Next month we will take a peek at swimwear, graphic tee shirts, chinos, shorty shorts and much more..so stay close Fur Coat friends!

Until then.....
