Land Ahoy!
Stripes, as I am sure you have noticed, are a little overwhelming this season. High street shops are mad for the maritime theme because stripy tops are cheap to produce, easy to design and even the shops that are at the bottom of our style pile can't go too badly wrong!
I am still not convinced by stripes, mostly because I believe they belong in an over 50's spring wardrobe and there is plenty of time before the rest of the population have to walk that plank! So I really like this Asos ironic nod to the maritime theme..worn with black opaques and some cute shoe boots...much more me!If you love maritime and spring wouldn't be the same without stripes, I have a few tips for you!
- Narrow stripes can often look more expensive than giant stripes (think Petite Bateau verus Next styling!
- Not all stripes are good for all ladies...remember the horizontal stripes will widen
the trunk of the body..so be careful and choose narrow stripes in thinner fabric rather than large stripes on chunky material if you are worried about a larger top half!! - Too many stripes will look ridiculous..you don't want to look like you have escaped from a convict cartoon strip!
- You don't need to spend a lot of money on stripes...don't bother with your usual quest for quality if this is a one season wonder. There are some great stripes at cheaper prices so why spend more?
- To update the maritime look, team with nude neutrals rather than primary red and navy...just a bit too bateau mouche...je crois!!
I am loving the Asos stripe styling for £20+. My favourite is this cute little Breton dress..what a steal for £22 at Asos! Look ladies, at the end of the day, you can't get that serious about stripes! They are fabulous for a little layer or a throw on dress..either way ladies...with or without a touch of Breton..add a little touch of spring to your wardrobe!
Happy days ladies x
